So there are quite a few things that are just different here, not wrong or right, just plain different. A few:
- Milk predominantly sold in bottles on the shelf, can only find quart size cold milk in some places. So as they say when in Rome . . . we have switched the kids and no complaints!
- Almost all stores, besides restaurants, are closed on Sunday
-The ice thing you hear about is real, they just do not use much of it. There is no ice maker in the fridge, we are back to old school ice cubes.
-Beer and wine is everywhere, people just sit outside at little tables and enjoy a drink - if only I could get the kids to understand that!
-Bikes are everywhere. There are bike lanes, traffic lights for bikes, places to put bikes, etc. I was even given a bike tour around my work campus! We now have a bike trailer for the kids and Hugh is getting great exercise!
-It takes two hours to do a load of laundry in a typical machine!
-Refrigerators are about half the size, so you just tend to shop more often.
-Peanut butter is not available! We have found a small American food store that has some.
-French Fries (Frittes) are everywhere - whole stores dedicated to them. Liam has quickly learned how to look for the French Fry statues! We have to ask and pay for ketchup or it would be served with mayo
-Doctors still do house calls - not that I want the kids to be sick but that would be interesting to experience.
Not a complete list by far, but all for now . . .
