Initial Exploring

We are already thrilled with our decision to take this journey. I was off from work the first week and Hugh for the first two. We have used the time to get to know our surroundings. Highlights:

- Went to the outside market in the center of Antwerp. It is held every weekend. Mix between lots of various international foods, flowers, fruits, local shops with booths and a bit of good old Jersey Flea market style stuff (think cheap t-shirts and other random stuff).

-Have visited quite a few parks in the city. We were worried about not having a yard but think we have spent more time outside than ever. See the one pic posted, the biggest slide I ever saw at a neighborhood park. Liam loved it!

-Followed the "Giantess and the Diver" around Antwerp. Hard to explain, best to watch the quick video clip at the bottom of the page. This live street theater goes from city to city around the world. Enormous figures move all around the city for a whole weekend. You can only find the whereabouts the night before on-line. It was amazing! The kids loved it. We saw the giantess sleeping Friday night and then watched her wake up Sunday morning and head back to the sea. There were cranes all over the city to move these things! Loving the city stuff like this!

-Visited the Belgian coast town of Knokke-Heist which is along the North Sea. We will go back for a weekend next time. It was like Jersey shore meets a Manhattan block. Tons of shops and restaurants and high-rise hotels/apartments to rent. The beach had playgrounds everywhere and shops to buy beverages (including adult), you can rent lounge chairs, or any kind of car/bike you can imagine to cruise the "boardwalk" area. Kids were totally overdressed and looked like tourists. A little dutch boy threw sand in Liam's face and he was really good about it. Feel bad that he could not understand what the kid was saying to him!
