We drove only one short hour from our home and we were transported back to medieval times, and I am not talking about the dinner theater! The town of Bruges is one of the most popular destinations in Belgium. The entire town has been preserved, although it is not a museum. People live in the homes, the streets are lined with cafes, big and small shops (from chocolatiers and lace shops to H&M), the churches are still in use, etc. It is really amazing to walk around in. There are winding streets, canals, towers, churches, and just beautiful buildings.
Liam lit a candle for my dad while we were in church. The construction of the church began in 1220 and took 200 years to build. There was a statue of the Madonna and child that was sculpted by none other than Michelangelo himself.
We figured out a way for the kids to let us sit and have a proper Belgian beer - puzzles! We bought two at the market in town and they worked like a charm. I see lots of puzzles in our future . . .
