Our Champion

Hugh noticed that there was a 10k/5k race going on at the brewery on our corner (yes, there is a brewery on our corner - this is Belgium!). There was a free kids race at the start, so we walked over and signed Liam up. He has never run any kind of race before. We had no idea how long it was or what the age grouping was since it was all in Dutch. It wound up being a big mix of ages, lots of 9-10 year olds and younger. Liam had to be the youngest there at 3. It was a 1k race (a little over half mile)!

Hugh was able to run with him. He came in dead last, and I mean by at least 1 minute or so. I was worried that they were walking back, but then I saw my determined little man running without a care in the world. The race officials were right behind him signaling he was the end of the line. He had run the whole thing, never stopping! The crowd just ate it up and cheered for him. He acted like he did this everyday!

This video of him crossing the finish line is priceless. You can hear proud daddy in the background.

It is days like this, when our kids have a "first" that make us really feel like we are living here. Great day.
